Launch infrastructure collapses during a controlled demolition at Space Launch Complex-6, June 16, 2026, at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif. Following the U.S. Space Force’s 2025 outgrant of SLC-6 to SpaceX, today's demolition marks the next step in evolving the site to advance national space launch capabilities. Originally built for the Manned Orbiting Laboratory more than 60 years ago, the modernization underway is intentionally designed to be flexible, ensuring the Space Force has the adaptable infrastructure necessary to support next generation launch vehicles as future national security needs dictate.
