SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING FIREFIGHTER Published June 24, 2010 By 100610 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The search resumed at 9 a.m. June 24 for a Vandenberg AFB firefighter who was reported missing June 21. There has been an outpouring of support from local and base businesses providing food, beverages and assistance to the search crews. Agencies involved in the search include the Vandenberg Hot Shots units conducting ground searches, water rescue teams conducting coastline searches, and off duty firefighters from Arroyo Grande, Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, Lompoc, San Lois Obispo, Oxnard and Carpentaria/Summerland. Civil Air Patrol and Air National Guard are also scheduled to assist June 24. Vandenberg AFB assumed operational control of the search at 6 p.m. June 22 and is working in conjunction with Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department, which has jurisdictional control. Sean Fleming was last seen kayaking off the Santa Barbara County coast June 19. So far search teams have found his kayak and backpack. The incident commander will continue to evaluate the situation on a daily basis. More information will be released as it becomes available.
