CONTROLLED BURN SCHEDULED Published Oct. 23, 2009 By 131009 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 30th Civil Engineer Squadron fire protection flight is scheduled to continue a controlled burn here from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. The Dunes Burn consists of 30 acres located North of Surf Beach and South of Ocean Park. The objective of the burn is to improve and increase the habitat of the Western snowy plover by removing the invasive, non-native beach grass. By reducing the biomass, adverse effects of sensitive cultural resources will be avoided, and will allow the dunes to dissipate to its natural contour.
