Vandenberg hosts community march against domestic violence Published Oct. 16, 2009 By 091009 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Vandenberg is scheduled to host the "VAFB Community March Against Violence and Memorial Ceremony" Oct. 20 in base housing on the corner of Juniper and Korina Avenue. October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The March Against Violence and Memorial Ceremony is aiming to raise awareness of domestic violence here as well as in the surrounding communities. The ceremony will start at 4 p.m. with welcoming remarks from Col. Steven Winters, 30th Space Wing vice commander, followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding, which renews the base's working relationship with domestic violence solutions to offer support for victims of domestic violence, and a silent witness presentation, honoring the 10 most recent victims of domestic violence in Santa Barbara County. Several local law enforcement agencies, including the 30th Security Forces Squadron, will be present to sign a statement of cooperation agreement declaring a zero tolerance policy regarding domestic violence in Santa Barbara County and renewing Vandenberg's working relationship with the local community in standing against domestic violence. Other groups participating in the march include the girl scouts, local dancers performing a tribute to the children affected by domestic violence and the Vandenberg chapel choir with Lompoc First Assembly of God Singers providing music for the event.
