Vandenberg honors fallen with 'A Run to Remember' Published Oct. 15, 2009 By 071009 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Vandenberg Air Force Base will conduct the charity Run to Remember from Oct. 19 to Nov. 11 here. A Run to Remember allows active duty military, civilians, contractors and retirees to run a mile for each servicemember who fell in the line of duty in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. Running takes place Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Nov. 10. On Nov. 10, the run will go 24 hours straight, finishing with a formation run that will end at 11 a.m. in front of the 14th AF headquarters building. The first runner of the 19-day fundraiser is Lt. Gen. Larry James, the commander of the 14th Air Force and the Joint Functional Component Command for Space. While the run for each fallen servicemember is one mile, participants can sign-up for as many miles as they like, donating $5 per mile to charities that support the Combined Federal Campaign. Civilians from the local area who had a loved one who died in Operations Iraqi or Enduring Freedom can also volunteer their time. People interested in running or volunteering are encouraged to sign up by Oct. 15. For more information, send e-mails to 14afruntoremember@vandenberg.af.mil.
