Emergency responders completed containing the fire that started near Vandenberg Middle School here Wednesday at approximately 11:45 a.m.

Fire officials confirmed the blaze was fully contained early this evening and determined a total of 617 acres burned during the four day fire.

Weather last night into this morning was cooperative to fire crews as calm winds and cool moist air settled over the base and remained through the morning.

There are no reported injuries or damaged facilities on base.

Mission planners on base were proud to announce that this fire had no effect on Vandenberg's ability to carry out its range and spacelift missions.

Vandenberg's Fire Department is recognized as the best in the Department of Defense. Their hard work has prevented this fire from impacting Vandenberg's mission contributions to air, space and cyberspace, said Col. David Buck, 30th Space Wing commander.
