Pine Canyon fire update Published Oct. 15, 2009 By 011009 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Emergency responders are currently working to contain the fire that started near Vandenberg Middle School here yesterday at approximately 11:45 a.m. Currently, the fire is 80% contained and approximately 450 acres have burned. Emergency personnel expect to have the fire fully contained before the end of the day. There are no reported injuries or damaged facilities on base. Vandenberg officials have instructed non-mission essential personnel to not come into work today and are urging all base personnel and residents to limit outdoor exposure due to decreased air quality from the fire.
