Vandenberg medical team supports Costa Rica humanitarian mission Published June 2, 2009 By 040509 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- A Vandenberg medical team will head to Costa Rica May 16 to assist local medical professionals in providing much-needed care for remote areas of the country. Airmen from Vandenberg's 30th Medical Group, along with three specialists from other AF medical units, will work jointly with Costa Rican medical professionals to deliver basic and specialty care to people living in areas without medical facilities. During the mission, the team plans to treat more than 4,000 patients. The team will perform a two-fold mission: assist those in need of basic necessities and project a positive image of the United States and military forces around the world. While Air Force medical teams often mobilize to support humanitarian missions, this team is the first full medical-specialty team from the United States allowed into Costa Rica. Media Advisory: Over the next week, 30 SW/PA will release stories, imagery and video B-roll updating local media of medical team activities. For more information please contact 2nd Lt.
