Team Vandenberg member killed in Iraq Published June 2, 2009 By 070509 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 30th Mission Support Group deputy commander here, was confirmed killed in action while serving in Al Anbar province, Iraq, Monday. Naval Reserve Cmdr. Duane Wolfe, assigned as Officer in Charge of the US Army Corps of Engineers Al Anbar Area Office, Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, was performing his reserve duties in the Navy when he was killed by injuries received during an improvised explosive device attack. "Each and every member of our team feels this tragedy, but we will pull together and help our own," said Col. David Buck, the 30th Space Wing commander. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they cope with this terrible loss." At Vandenberg, Commander Wolfe served as the civilian deputy commander of the 30th Space Wing Mission Support Group, the Wing's most heavily deployed unit. "Duane's death will leave a hole in the Mission Support Group that can never be filled," said Col. Rick Wright, the 30th Mission Support Group commander. "He was a great team member and an even greater friend. His 24 years of service at Vandenberg Air Force Base will be missed dearly." Memorial service planning is underway.
