Vandenberg Firefighters Contribute to Burn Relay Published Aug. 24, 2006 By 020606 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Firefighter's Quest for Burn Survivors annual rally will now take place at 8:30 a.m. at Fire Station no. 4 in Santa Maria, where a check for $26,000 will be donated by the Vandenberg Fire Department. Firefighters Quest is a non-profit organization managed by volunteers. According to the group's Web site, they are dedicated to assisting those affected by burn injuries. Funds are raised exclusively through various fundraisers throughout the year. The organization's largest fundraiser is the Quest Rally, a week-long event where the volunteer staff travels caravan style, lights blazing and sirens wailing, visiting fire, medical and law enforcement agencies throughout California. At each stop along the way, the staff collects contributions for burn survivors. For the last five years, the Vandenberg Fire Department surpassed the more than 70 fire and police departments representing Central and Southern California in donations. -30-
