Service member dies in crash Published July 15, 2014 By 030714 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Senior Airman Nicholas S. Dibona, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle accident at 4:22 p.m. Sunday on Highway 1 north of Santa Lucia Canyon Road. Two passengers in the vehicle were treated and released from a local hospital. "The loss of one of our own is a tragedy, and we are leaning on each other across the base to make it through this difficult time," said Col. Keith Balts, 30 Space Wing commander. "The fact that SrA. Dibona's life was just beginning only adds to the sense of loss we feel. Our hearts and prayers go out to this young Airman's family, friends and co-workers." A memorial service for Dibona is being planned by base leadership. More information will be released as it becomes available.
