VANDENBERG SPACE FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Members of the Boys & Girls Club of Mid Central Coast participate in a weather balloon demonstration during a tour at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif., April 10, 2026.
During the tour, Guardians, Airmen and civilian personnel from the 30th Operations Support Squadron demonstrated how atmospheric data collected via weather balloons is used to support safe and effective launch and test operations at the Vandenberg Spaceport and Test Range. Weather balloons gather high-altitude wind and atmospheric data that directly influences launch commit decisions and overall flight safety for launch and test operations.
The visit provided students with the opportunity to engage with Airmen, Guardians and civilians of the 30th Operations Support Squadron. Events like these strengthen community connections while showcasing the teamwork required to execute launch and test missions across the Vandenberg Spaceport and Test Range.
