  • 18th Space Control Squadron recognized for innovation

    The 18th Space Control Squadron, Combat Development Division, recently won the 2021 Colonel Bradford W. Parkinson Innovation Team Award at the Space Operations Command level. Following the Nov. 3 award announcement, the team will now compete for recognition at the U.S. Space Force level. The Col. Bradford W. Parkinson Innovation Award is a Department of the Air Force level award that recognizes an individual or team who demonstrates innovation to improve efficiency, operational readiness and replication of the innovation across the Space Force enterprise.

    The Combined Force Space Component Command commander Maj. Gen. DeAnna Burt gave the keynote speech and joined fellow veterans, coalition members, and other community spectators at Pine Grove Cemetery to honor all who have served their country in war or peace on Nov. 11, 2021. In recognition of a shared history and close partnerships with allies, the ceremony also incorporated universal traditions of remembrance.

  • CSpOC offers opportunity for deeper understanding of allied partners

    With more than 15 exchange and liaison officers assigned to various units across Vandenberg SFB, there is a good chance that U.S. military and civilians here will have the opportunity to interact with and work side-by-side with them at some point. To help introduce the international officers to a greater number of people here and increase understanding of what they do as part of the space enterprise, the Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC) held a “Coalition All Call” on base Oct. 15.

  • Learning to be a Guardian while a “casual lieutenant”

    When you think of a “casual lieutenant” you probably don’t think of writing strategic messages that are distributed to thousands of people, drafting talking points for a general officer, or coordinating and narrating a two star “All Call” with 300 personnel attending. However, that is exactly what I have done, and more, in my first 2 months in the Space Force. In anticipation of my Officer Undergraduate Space Training date, I was lucky enough to be selected to work on the commander’s action group for Maj. Gen. DeAnna Burt, the Commander of the Combined Force Space Component Command, and it has been a priceless experience in my development as a Guardian.
