Crestview Elementary School wins North County Math Superbowl
Crestview Elementary School, located on Vandenberg Air Force Base, won the coveted 1st Place Trophy for the second year in a row in the North Santa Barbara County Math Competition. This year 22 schools competed in the Math Super Bowl Competition held in Santa Maria. In the last 5 years Crestview has taken 1st place in the competition three times and come in second place two times. Crestview 4th grade teacher Anne Gusland led the effort at Crestview with help from Chuck Maxie, 6thteacher and Lisa Carroll 5th grade teacher. The competition consisted of individual assessments and a group project that tested students’ mathematical abilities. Crestview individual winners included 3rd place for Madeline De La Concha in 4th grade, 2nd place for Max McArthur in 5th grade and 1st place for Elijah Johnson in 6th grade. Team awards included 2nd place for 4th grade, 1st place for 5th grade and 2nd place for 6th grade. Also, 6th grade took 4th place for the building competition. The final trophy presented was for Top School in the North County Competition which was presented to Crestview. The 4th grade team members were Emma Bartholomew, Madeline De La Concha, Cassie Lorenz, Gabriel Retamoza and Addy Hulme. The 5th grade team members were Max MacArthur, Simon Varkonyi, Amaya Walker, Ron Raj and Hailey Johns. The 6th grade members were Elijah Johnson, Bella Molina, Audrick Mochel,Tyler Quanrud and Aneska Smith. The team members were greeted by the entire school upon their arrival back at Crestview.
