OPERATION KUDOS Published Sept. 30, 2010 By 090910 VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Team Vandenberg is scheduled to host Operation Kids Understanding Deployment Operations at 9 a.m. Oct. 2 at Cocheo Park here. The Airman and Family Readiness Center, responsible for family members programs during deployments, have planned this event in order for children to experience what happens when their mom or dad deploys overseas. During the event, children will go through the exact same process as military members go through to prepare for a deployment. Pre-deployment events include being issued an identification card, dog tags, attending briefings, and meeting base leadership. Children will then "deploy" to a tent city complete with sleeping, dining and medical tents. Outside the tent city there will be displays by military working dog teams, explosive ordnance teams, medical, chemical gear and fire department. Children are encouraged to wear their parent's uniform top at the event. Vandenberg expects 75 children to participate.
