  • COVID testing remains key part of Vandenberg readiness

    Although vaccination appointments for COVID-19 are being provided to an expanding population at Vandenberg AFB through Operation Fight Back, the 30th Medical Group also remains committed to providing continued COVID testing and contact tracing to maximize base readiness. “Testing continues to be an important strategy for combating this pandemic,” said Major Aubrey Reid, 30th MDG health care integrator. “It is important to contact the 30th Medical Group at 805-606-CARE when you feel ill or as directed by current guidance for COVID testing.”
  • Vandenberg CrossFit group a product of resilience and commitment to fitness

    Some would say it takes a unique form of resilience for military members who make a permanent change of station (PCS) every few years to adapt and rebuild their social networks in new locations. For a local group of CrossFit enthusiasts on Vandenberg Air Force Base, their shared passion for fitness and achieving their personal best propelled them to create their own close-knit exercise group, which also paved the way for each to place in the top 10 percent of a recent CrossFit competition.

    In a year where COVID-19 has tested spirits across the country, Vandenberg's Chapel team has been hard at work helping to maintain the spiritual resiliency of Team Vandenberg. For the base chaplains, a group that relies on social interaction, operating during a pandemic that requires social and physical distancing to maintain those regular lines of communication has been a challenge, according to SrA Sterling Crutcher, religious affairs airman for the 30th Space Wing Chapel.

  • 30th SCS pairs with ANG electronics experts to shore up comms systems in CFSCC’s new HQ building

    Electronics experts from several different Air National Guard units on assignment at Vandenberg AFB are working hand-in-hand with the 30th Space Communications Squadron and the 614th Air and Space Communications Squadron to ensure electronic communications connectivity in the new Combined Force Space Component Command headquarters building, which is estimated to be fully occupied and operational by the end of calendar year 2021.
  • Vandenberg AFB awarded $500,000 grant from U.S. Department of Energy

    The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Vandenberg Air Force Base a $500,000 grant to continue work towards increasing installation energy resiliency and efficiency. Representatives of the DOE met with base energy managers at the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron on Feb. 23, 2021, for a grant award kickoff meeting, to finalize the grant implementation process.
  • SpOC-West personnel support teams win command annual awards

    Following a year of many organizational transitions, the hard-working personnel support team assigned to Space Operations Command (SpOC)-West recently earned two 2020 SpOC awards and will now move on to compete at the Air Force level. On March 3, SpOC headquarters announced that Maj. Richard Hart, director of SpOC-West Manpower and Personnel, won the Force Support Field Grade Officer award, and the SpOC-West Commander Support Staff (CSS) won the A1 Special Recognition Team Award for staff-level support.
