  • Readiness and Housing

    Vandenberg Space Force Base is one of 28 areas selected by the Department of Defense for a temporary increase in Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) starting October 2022. Vandenberg qualified for this raise because the average housing costs in the area have increased more than 20% over the current BAH rate. Low BAH and a scarcity of available homes in local Military Housing Areas (MHA) are making it difficult for many to find a place to live.

    On September 15 and 16, Vandenberg Space Force Base held the second annual Assured Access to Space (AATS) Industry Days Forum where senior military leaders, intelligence officials, government leaders, academia, and launch service and solution providers gathered in-person and virtually to discuss activities and policies that will bolster the development of the space domain.
  • 9/11 2022 Remembrance Ceremony

    Personnel gathered for a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif. Sept. 11, 2022. The ceremony was in remembrance of the and honor of the 343 firefighters, first responders and victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, United Airlines Flight 93 and our Nation. The ceremony included reading of the Firefighter's Prayer, Security Forces Prayer, Combat Medic's Prayer, a flag detail, and a Bell Ceremony.

The 5th California Defense Leadership Summit, hosted in the state’s capitol of Sacramento by the Governors Military Council, became a hub for installation support organizations, installation and operational commanders, and decision and policy makers throughout the golden state to share challenges and solutions faced head-on.

  • The Sun Sets on Vandenberg’s MWH Program

    In 1996, Vandenberg gained a new unit of four-legged defenders from Howard Airbase in Panama, due to the downsizing and eventual closure of the installation in 1999. Thus the military working horse program on Vandenberg was established. As a part of the conservation law enforcement section within the 30th Security Forces Squadron, horses and their riders were tasked to patrol over 99,000 acres, most of which is difficult to traverse on foot, making the horses a vital asset to the mission.
  • Vandenberg’s South Base Re-energizes with the Activation of Substation N

    After almost six years of rebuilding, on June 2, 2022, south loop two came back to life. Electricians and power grid engineers, and contractors worked hand-in-hand to route power to substation N, from substation K, which was primarily used to keep south base powered while repairs to the infrastructure of south loop two were underway.
