    The Air Force continuously looks to innovate and prepare for the future. At Vandenberg Air Force Base, a piece of mission software called Perimeter 9 looks to be part of that future. Perimeter 9 was developed by the 2nd Space Launch Squadron (2 SLS) team during the initial COVID-19 emergency response efforts at Vandenberg AFB.

  • VAFB honors WWII Vet on 105th birthday as honorary SF member

    1st Lt. Charles “Charlie” Dever, local Goleta resident and WWII veteran, turned the seasoned age of 105 on Sunday. It began with an email to Vandenberg AFB from Dever’s daughter, Kathy. When the 30th Space Wing leadership learned that local WWII veteran was turning 105 years old, they went “all-in” for the surprise. This Sunday, for his 105th birthday, Dever was expecting to celebrate with his immediate family and a few residents. What Dever got was a surprise celebration courtesy of a Team Vandenberg effort and community recognition for his time in the U.S. Army Air Corps and his legacy as a WWII B-24 navigator. Team Vandenberg worked with Kathy to coordinate a COVID-conscientious grand ceremony, complete with parade, color guard presentation, speeches from leadership, and the folding of and presentation of the American flag.
  • VAFB launches into a new era, welcoming USSF inductees

    On Sept. 1, 2020, at the Base Flag Pole in front of the Headquarters’ Building, 21 officers and enlisted members at Vandenberg Air Force Base joined the United States Space Force during the ceremonial induction tradition. The ceremony followed the time-honored military tradition as the officer and enlisted members affirmed their commitment to the armed services by taking either the Oath of Office or the Oath of Enlistment.
  • VAFB Airman wins DoD Fire Officer of the Year 2019

    On July 31, 2020, the Department of Defense announced Senior Master Sgt. Corey Coleman, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron deputy fire chief, the winner of the 2019 Department of Defense Fire Officer of the Year. Additionally, on July 24, 2020, The United States Air force announced that Senior Master Sergeant Coleman and Mr. Lamont Brown, 30th CES firefighter, won the 2019 United States Air Force Fire Officer of the Year and Fire Fighter of the Year awards.

  • Servant leadership; IG Airman secures assets, efficiency, and awards

    “Working for the IG is a special experience,” said Burner. “When I first learned of the IG position, while working in Security Forces, I thought ‘that sounds like a great opportunity,’ but I didn’t know what to expect. After two years in the position, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the IG because it has helped in my development as an Air Force leader.”
